It’s been almost a year since the last proper post I did about my thesis but now I will pick up right where I left!  Here’s one of the main Illustrations of the whole series and also a bit of the process involved. The piece was based of the story The Zahir by JJ Borges

Funes the Memorious

OK, here goes nothing. haha, It's been really busy lately but finally I'm able to post a little teaser of what's coming up. Here's one a of a series of pieces I've been working on for the last few months. I'm not sure if I'll tweak it a little more but I think is pretty much done. This piece is based on the short story "Funes the Memorious" by my longtime idol,  argentinian writer J L Borges.
Stay tuned for more stuff and thanks so much to all for your support!!!!

Acrylic, Digital. 13" x 19"

Sorrow Songs

This piece needs a brief introduction. In this illo I wanted to explore the word Horror. It took me a while to figure out what the word truly means to me and in the end I found myself connecting the concept to my reality, or to be more accurate, to my countrys reality. This piece was inspired by a terrifying event know as The Salado Massacre, which took place in El Salado, Colombia in February of 2000. Though its a complex story, I focused on one terrifying detail: during the massacre, the murderers decided to play live music with Gaitas, Tamboras and accordions, while they were slaughtering the towns people. Years has passed by and I cant still get my head around this event so I decided to use it as a starting point to work around the concept of Horror. This piece is not a representation; its more of a personal reflection, and some how a tribute to all the innocent victims that has left the nonsense, corrupted and unjustified war over my country.

Mirror

It’s been a long, long time since I last updated my blog. I could say that I was in a brief hiatus, which is partially truth, but I also was busy working on some freelance commissions, a few personal pieces, meeting extremely talented artists and making some connections. Now, the “break” is over and it’s time to get busy again. So… enough with the chat.
This is a personal piece I did recently. No entirely happy with the final outcome but it was worth trying. In the process you will realize that this is not the way I usually work since the piece changed quite a lot from the initial idea.

Happy news, and new year!

So this year ends with awesome news, two of my pieces were selected in the 2013 Society of Illustrators LA show. Thanks to SILA juries and Scad for this chance! One of the pieces I never published so here’s a new piece for y’all,  I did a portrait for a fictional Sports Illustrated Cover.  The main subject was the 2012 London Olympics and since Colombia did so good this year I decided to pay a little homage to Catherine Ibargüen, one of our winners!

This is a great ending but also a great beginning!
Happy new year everyone!

And stay tuned! Diegoillustration will be back soon with new stuff!
