Pretty speeches

Este hace parte de una serie de dibujos que inicie y espero algún día culminar. Debo decir que a veces duele mucho ver la realidad de mi país. No quiero decir que no haya nada bueno aquí, pero a veces siento la necesidad de crear imagenes que tal vez me permitan desahogarme o hacer un comentario critico o dar una opinión sobre lo que veo o vivo en mi país. Sin duda alguna hay muchos temas por ahí flotando y cuando se trata de hablar de un contexto, ya sea político, social, económico, el reto en términos de imagen es bastante grande. Espero poder profundizar en esta búsqueda y algún día llegar a crear imagenes con un contenido critico serio, que logren remover un poco el pensamiento de quienes las vean. 

La serie se titula "Like Spinning Plates" y si, está inspirada en la hermosa canción de Radiohead. Este es el primero de cuatro dibujos y corresponde a la primera frase de la letra.

This is part of a series of drawings I recently started and hope to finish someday. I must say sometimes it´s really heart-breaking to watch my country's reality. I'm not saying everything is wrong here but sometimes I feel the urgency of creating images and criticize or at least speak out my personal opinion on some matters. No doubt there's a lot to talk about when it comes to social or political context and it's such a big challenge to transform that into a good image. Therefore you have to be careful and work like hell.  I hope I can get to deepen in this search and perhaps one day, create images with a strong statement. 

For now this series is called "Like Spinning Plates" (yeah, like the great Radiohead song). This is the first of four illustrations and it corresponds to the first line of the lyrics.

Back to Basics!!!

After almost 3 years without using a single brush, today finally I'm back with painting.  I started with basic stuff so I made this quick terrible copy of a beautiful painting by Dice Tsutsumi, one of my favorite artist. Hopefully I'll be painting a lot and gaining practice again...

Half Full

Something I made for Positive Posters competition. The theme was "A glass half full"......well I didn´t made it to the exhibition but it was fun and I learned some new tricks.  So yeah, I guess at the end the glass is half full.

Algo que hice para la competencia de Positive Posters cuyo tema giraba en torno a la expresión "A glass half full".  No logré entrar a la exibición pero fue divertido hacerlo y aprendí nuevos truquillos digitales. Supongo que el vaso está medio lleno y no medio vacío.

Flag zipper

Some picks from the stop motion we did for the "Flag zipper" (explosion scene),  First I made the design (previously posted), then we printed it on white fabric and Natalia's aunt Lucia sewed up the zipper (thanks so much!!!!!). Making the "curtain" effect wasn't that easy, we had to make several tests to get the right movement. Then it was a bit difficult to make it look right in the digital composition but the mighty Nicolas made it happen (thanks too!!!).

Algunas fotos del stop motion hecho para la bandera en la escena de la explosión. Primero hice el diseño, luego lo imprimimos en tela blanca y Lucia, la tia de Natalia cosió la cremallera (muchas gracias!!!). Tomo un tiempo lograr el efecto adecuado pero resultó bien. También fue algo difícil lograr la apariencia correcta en la composición pero el gran Nicolas lo logró (Muchas gracias también!!!)

Premiere Night

Left to right, Andrea Echeverri, Natalia CH, me and Héctor Buitrago. This video was a wonderful experience and we´re really proud of it. We do believe Aterciopelados is the greatest colombian rock band ever and we thank them for giving us the chance and for believing in our work.

Desert Truck

Estas son las partes del camión, desde los escaners hasta el resultado final. Luego de hacer algo de investigación diseñé el camión y dibuje las partes por separado, Natalia hizo la paleta de colores, Diana las acuarelas y Nicolas animó todo en After Effects. Todo un reto.

All the parts for the Truck, scanners at the left and final composition at the right. After some research I designed the truck based on old Dodge truck models. I drew all the parts separately, Natalia made the color palette, Diana painted the watercolors and Nicolas animated all the parts in After Effects. It was quite a challenge to make it look right.......
